WAMASC - About Our FieldOverviewWelcome to the homepage of the W.A. Model Aircraft Sports Centre Inc. Club. Our aims are to operate the best model aircraft facility in Australia, and to encourage and assist others to participate in our hobby for maximum enjoyment and safety. The facility has been developed to cater for most forms of aeromodelling with specific areas for control line, fixed wing, and helicopters. The control line area features a concrete circle for team racing, and a grass circle for general flying. The fixed wing and helicopter areas feature covered pits, bitumen runways, and a large grassed area for helicopter training. The public are always welcome to visit and enjoy the model flying. We have a shaded spectator area with chairs available. Our canteen facilities are open most flying days, and provides hot and cold drinks, icecreams, hamburgers, and hot dogs. Members will be happy to answer any questions that you may have about our hobby. Popular flying days with members are Tuesday, Friday, and of course the weekend. The Model Aircraft State Centre Club is a purpose-built facility to suit most forms of aeromodelling. The control line area features a concrete circle suitable for team racing, a grass circle for general and stunt flying on up to 70 foot lines, and a pit area. The helicopter training area consists of approximately 3000 square metres of lawn. The fixed wing area features three bitumen runways surrounded by lawn. The runways are positioned to take into account the most common wind directions. The East-West runway is 140 metres in length, the North East-South West runway is 130 metres, and the North West-South East runway is 80 metres. All are 9 metres wide. The helicopter and fixed wing modellers share the covered pit area and transmitter compound. The rest of the facility comprises sufficient parking area for up to 250 vehicles, a shaded spectator area with kids cubby house, a club house with canteen and toilet, and a toilet block for use during major events. WhenFlying takes place seven days a week. Saturdays and Sundays are busiest, but most days have some activity, weather permitting. Model flying is permitted from 08:00 until dusk, and the field is closed by the Whiteman Park management on days when the Fire Danger Index (FDI) equals or exceeds 40. This happens often in summer, check the Fire Danger Index for the Lower West, Metro Coastal Plain and Perth Weather Forecast before planning a trip to avoid a wasted journey. AdmissionThe public is always welcome at the field and we will be happy to answer and assist with any questions that you may have about our sport. Most of the flying is on the weekend from mid morning to mid afternoon. There is no admission charge to the centre for spectators during routine flying sessions. There may be an admission charge to the public on display days or other special event days. Visitors who have never been a MAAA (Model Aeronautical Association of Australia) member will be allowed two (2) free flights at the field and then must join WAMASC to continue flying at the field.
